Typical pretreatment systems are fed with chlorinated city water and consist of the following components to treat the water upstream from the distillation unit:

• media filters for removal of suspended solids



• water softeners for hardness removal



• carbon filters to dechlorinate the water (chlorine can not be allowed to enter the still)



• polishing water softener for ammonia removal
